For students accepted for the program there are two required meetings before we meet at LAX on May 29th:

Monday, May 12th, 7:00-9:30p.m., Fullerton College Center, Room 224 upstairs

At this meeting you'll have some additional paperwork to complete. The vendor will be present and will be able to answer your questions and provide additional information about our itinerary and accommodations. If you are planning to fly home later than the scheduled July 3rd departure date you need to telephone the vendor before April 18th. Their contact information is on the invoice they sent you. At this meeting Ms. Lee will also provide an academic orientation about our class, Psych 131.

and

Wednesday, May 21st, 7:00-9:00p.m., Fullerton College Center, Room 224 upstairs - Parents are welcome at this travel orientation meeting. You will receive your airline tickets at this meeting.

You will get your "Go Greece" travel guidebook at this meeting or the May 12th meeting.

If you are unable to attend these meetings you must contact Professor LeVonne Nelson (714) 992-5004 or lnelson@fullcoll.edu as soon as possible so that she can make other arrangements for you.

You should have already received your invitation to join our YahooGroups e-list and website for students going to Greece with us this summer. Contact Ms. Lee at her special email address if you are having trouble joining the group: callista.abroad@yahoo.com

If we can find a time convenient for most of the group we may schedule a casual dinner or "coffee" meeting in the Fullerton area sometime before Spring Final Exams begin.

Our Travel Vendor (Leonardo World) is charging approximately $5,200 for all travel, transfers, Athens tour, welcome and departure parties, an Athens Metro Pass, two out-of-town excursions (with some meals included), your housing in Athens, and some other services. Your Fullerton College tuition, special (required) international health insurance, and textbook adds up to about another $225. If you check prices for traveling on your own for 5 weeks you'll find that the Study Abroad programs are a great deal in many ways.

Many students qualify for financial aid to help pay some of the program & tuition costs. Don't assume that you don't qualify until you've spoken with someone at Financial Aid. The financial aid officer who works with our Study Abroad students is Jose Alcaraz  - jalcaraz@fullcoll.edu  (714) 992-7052.

If you are a CSUF Student (or any institution that is a HACU member) you may qualify for an additional scholarship through the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities http://www.hacu.net/hacu/Default_EN.asp

Apply for your passport now - the U.S. Passport Office became overwhelmed with applications last spring and summer when they began requiring passports for travel to/from Canada and Mexico, but they say that they have everything under control now. Even so, it takes about 6 weeks to process most applications, so go ahead and apply for your passport now. You will need to send proof of your U.S. citizenship with your application (i.e., birth certificate). If you decide against going to Greece this summer you'll still have a  U.S. passport, and that's a good thing!

We'll live in Athens but also included in your price will be two multi-night excursions: a boat trip to the Islands of Mykonos and Delos, and a bus trip to Delphi, Olympia, Nafplio & Corinth. And our class only meets for about 3 hours a day, 4 days a week, (but of course you'll have to make time to study and do your homework assignments!) so you'll have 3-day weekends each week to explore the greater Athens area, or travel throughout the Greek mainland and islands, or even to the nearby countries of Bulgaria, Macedonia, Albania, Cyprus, Italy, or the west coast of Turkey. (Because of political tensions, visits to central or eastern Turkey are not a great idea at this time. Albania is listed as a high crime country but crimes against Americans are unusual.)

Greece is considered a safe travel destination for Americans, and English speakers can be found in all but the most out-of-the way towns. At tourist centers, signage is in both Greek and English. We will be there at the beginning of the tourist season when vacationers from around the globe enjoy the beauty and history of Greece each year.

The U.S. State Department issues travel advisories about all countries. You can check out what they say about Greece using the Passport link above. Enjoy a safe trip abroad.

Details about all Study Abroad programs and academic requirements will be available in the applications. You need to have completed 12 college semester units including English 100, with a grade of C or better (or the equivalent course at another college), and have an overall GPA of at least 2.5 at the time of application.

You must also be at least 18 years old by the time we travel.

If you have other questions about the program please email me at clee@fullcoll.edu or the Program Coordinator, Professor LeVonne Nelson lnelson@fullcoll.edu, or the Administrator in charge, Jackie Boll, Dean of the Library.
