Links
This page hosts a list of links you may find helpful as you take classes here at Fullerton College. This page will updated whenever I find a new link that I think will be useful.
- Fullerton College Writing Center: The Writing Center is there to help you with any kind of writing and/or research you have to do. They won't write or edit your papers for you, but they'll get you headed in the right direction.
- The Bedford Researcher: A companion website to the book The Bedford Researcher, this site has all sorts of tips and resources for writers and researchers.
- Common Errors in English: Those who know me know I don't approve of prescriptivism, but this site may be worthwhile. It's simply a list of common errors (some simply typographical) made in English, accompanied by an explanation of why the error is an error. It may indeed be worth your time to poke around this site.
- NoodleTools: This is a neat site with a ton of different educational resources--including complete citation rules for both MLA and APA.
- Grammar Bytes!: I say this in all seriousness: it is vanishingly rare that someone who is not paid to be funny is, in my estimation, actually funny. The creator of Grammar Bytes!, a grammar review site, is one of the very few who have managed to earn my respect in the humor department. If you have any grammar questions, this isn't a bad place to go.
- Turnitin.com: This is a service-based site that allows students to turn in their papers online, using (pretty much) whatever document type they please. Submissions are date-stamped, so that a lost e-mail or MAILER_DAEMON will never prevent your paper from reaching your professor.
- CE6: If you're using CE6 in one of your courses, click on this link to access it. Unsure about your login? Worry not! Instructions can be found here.
- New Comm Ave: Literary Journal: Check out this relatively young literary magazine that features student essays of all genres. Interested in submitting one of your own essays? Click here to learn how.
- Mark Fullmer's Writing Page: Mark is a professor here at Fullerton College, and he's written several very useful essays on writing that you might want to check out. Wait, strike that "might". You'll definitely want to check these out. They get my seven-comb stamp of approval.
- "The Age of the Essay" by Paul Graham: A fantastic essay on essay writing and its surprising relevance in the internet era.
- What Type of Learner Are You?: Go to this site to take a test that will tell you what type of a learner you are. Follow the links to see what you can do to maximize your performance in the classroom!
- Firefox: If you're using Internet Explorer, immediately go to this page and download Firefox. Once you've downloaded it, install it, and start websurfing again. After that, uninstall and delete Internet Explorer, and never use it again. (If you must use Internet Explorer, NEVER submit any personal information of any kind to any site for any reason.)
- OpenOffice.org: Don't have Microsoft Word? Not a problem! OpenOffice.org has developed a free multiplatform, multilingual, open-source office suite that does everything MS Word and Excel do, plus much, much more. It can handle .doc, .docx, .pdf--pretty much anything you throw at it. And it's all free! This is the alternative to Microsoft, and I whole-heartedly encourage you to give it a try. It's good for Macs and PC's.
