Reading Assessment

The reading section of this test measures your ability to comprehend a variety of reading selections on topics such as natural science, prose/fiction, social science and humanities. After reading a passage, students will be presented with five multiple choice items. Three of the 5 items are reasoning and the remaining two are referring items.

REASONING ITEMS: Tests students ability in the following areas: making appropriate inferences, interpreting meaning based upon the context of the test; and developing a critical understanding of the text.

REFERRING ITEMS: Items in this category pose questions about materials explicitly stated in the passage. Subcategories include the following:

Recognizing the explicitly main idea of a passage with more than one paragraph.

Recognizing the explicitly stated main idea of a paragraph.

Locating explicit information in a passage that answers questions "Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How".

Recognizing cause and effect relationships.
