DO
- You will scan your work and upload it to Canvas. I recommend using the free app, CamScanner. Using CamScanner you can take a photo of your work with your phone, combine multiple pages if necessary, convert it to a pdf, and upload it to a cloud drive like Dropbox, OneDrive or GoogleDrive. You may also use a tablet and upload the digital pdf directly to Canvas.
- Use letter size paper. Lined paper, graphing paper, engineering paper, and plain paper (no lines) are all okay, just as long as it is the correct size. You may also use a tablet and upload the digital pdf directly to Canvas.
- Write the section number and problem set on the top of the top of the first page.
- Write your full name, the date, and your class and meeting days in the upper right corner of your paper.
- Every section must be started on a new sheet of paper. Often, more than one section will be assigned per class. Each section is a separate homework assignment and must be treated that way.
- Write the original problem if it is not a word problem. It's okay not to write a long word problem. You do not need to copy the instructions, just the original equation or expression.
- Be organized and neat while detailing all of the necessary steps. Some problems can be done in one step, without any work. In this case, no work is necessary. Just the original problem and the answer.
- Box or circle your final answer. If you don't box your answer, I don't know if you are finished with that problem.
DON'T
- Don't turn in messy work. If I can't read each step, you will not receive full credit.
- Don't skip steps. When you omit necessary steps, it appears you didn't do the problem and just copied the answer from the back. If I suspect you are trying to get credit for a problem you did not finish, you will receive a ZERO for that assignment.
- Don't skip problems and try to get full credit. Be up front about turning in incomplete work. Either leave a space for the problem you skipped or make a note indicating you skipped it. If it appears you are trying to deceive me, you will get a ZERO for that assignment.
- Don't copy from the solutions manual or some other source. Do your own work. You're not doing yourself any favors by skipping the valuable step in the learning process that is solving problems on your own.
- Don't include your notes with your homework. I'm not grading your notes.
- Don't do the exercises in a different order than they are assigned. On rare occasions, you may need to redo a problem after the rest of the assignment is completed. In this case, make a note on your assignment that one or more problems are out of order. You do not need to rewrite the entire assignment.
- Don't forget to read this last part: If you follow all of these guidelines and write "I read the HW guide" on the top of your first assignment, you will receive five extra credit points, added to your homework total. This must be done on the first assignment and the first assignment only. Please do not write it on any other assignment. If your first assignment violates any of these guidelines, you will not receive the extra credit.
