Broken Blossoms (BB)
D.W. Griffith's silent film, Broken Blossom's, stars Richard Barthelmess as a Chinese man who travels to England to spread the pacifist teachings of the Orient. Starring as the fifteen-year old street urchin is Lillian Gish who longs to escape torment and neglect of an abusive father, nurtured back to health by Barthelmess' character. An unspoken romance flowers between them, awakening in each feelings of love they thought themselves forever denied.
Career Motivation (CM)
A motivation and self-confidence series that explores individual differences, cultural diversity, investigates attributes and motives objectively, and assesses the ability to make interpretations of “SELF” and “CAREERS.” The nine-part series is required viewing for students enrolled in the 1-unit, for credit, COUN 144 teleweb course, Career Motivation and Self-Confidence.
The Changing Culture of the Workplace (CCOW)
An eight-part series, hosted by George Takei, that focuses on the changing workplace as it shifts to an information-based global economy in the 21st Century. The series challenges the barriers that restrict workers and job seekers by demonstrating how to develop the skills needed for the new job market. Motivational experts and psychologists explain the differences between constructive vs. destructive motivation and how each contributes to employee success in the workplace.

Crossroads Café (CC)
Stressing language communication, this thirteen-part episodic series is designed to teach English to speakers of other languages. While engagingly depicting the lives of six characters involved with a small neighborhood restaurant, the lessons provide an integrated experience of listening, reading, and writing. The characters’ backgrounds, challenges, and struggles are typical of many ESL/ESOL learners.

Vividly documented with on-location footage at major geological sites around the world, this thirteen-part series gives a comprehensive study of the earth’s physical processes and properties. Emphasis is on understanding the scientific theories behind geological principles. Both the dramatic forces, volcanic activity and earthquakes, are presented.
Endless Voyage (EV)
Designed to bring the excitement of oceanography to those
with no previous oceanography background, the thirteen-part series focuses on the
marine environment as a unique and important part of life on earth, including

Stories of challenge, relationships, investigation, hope, and inspiration are told using original footage of real life case studies, in this thirteen-part series.
Metropolis (MTRPLS)
Filmed in 1927, Metropolis takes place in 2026 when the populace is divided between workers who must live in the dark underground and the rich who enjoy a futuristic city of splendor. The tense balance of these two societies is realized through images which presage such sci-fi landmarks as 2001:A Space Odyssey and Blade Runner. It is, perhaps, the most famous and influential of all silent films.
News Writing (NW)
Fifteen half-hour programs incorporate interviews with more than 100 working journalists from Pulitzer Prize winners to reporters at small town papers. The series reinforces both traditional and emerging journalism styles in broadcast and public relations writing, as well as print journalism. Editorial and column writing are explored along with use of language, media ethics and media law. The programs explore such topics as: how journalists determine what the public needs and wants to know; the development and organization of a story; differences between writing and reporting; and the difficulties in covering disasters.
The Power of Place (POP)
A twenty-six part series focusing on the geographic skills
and concepts necessary to understand the world. Geography educators and content
experts from around the globe shed light on the physical, human, political,
historical, economic, and cultural factors that affect people and natural
environments. Maps, animation, and academic commentary bring into focus case
studies from various sites and countries.
Queen Kelly (QK)
A storybook romance of intoxicating beauty, counterbalanced with a frightfully grim tale of moral corruption, Queen Kelly stars Gloria Swanson as an innocent convent girl who falls under the spell of a handsome prince on the eve of his marriage to a diabolical queen. Filmed in 1928, Queen Kelly may have been a writer and director Erich Von Stoheim's great achievement.
Sadie Thompson (ST)
A landmark of the silent era, Sadie Thompson is the first film version of Somerset Maugham's classic story "Miss Thompson." It was thought the film's greatest achievement was its uncompromising translation of Maugham's controversial story of a San Francisco prostitute and a South Pacific reformer. The film stars Gloria Swanson who maintained the film's silence was its greatest asset, since critics could not censor what they couldn't hear.
Steamboat Bill Jr. (SB)
Set on the Mississippi River in the old side-wheeler days, Steamboat Bill Jr. filmed in 1928 and featuring Buster Keaton, follows the adventures of a spoiled young man forced by his crusty father to learn the ropes of river boating. Over the course of the film, the scale of comedy expands from small-scale, nostalgic humor to some of the most elaborate sight gags of Keaton's career. Highlighted by remarkable special effects, the film's crowning achievement is it hurricane climax.
Stress Management and Relaxation Training(SMRT)
A twelve-part series that provides the theory of stress management, as well as instruction in stretching and relaxation techniques, the effect of diet on stress, and the role of exercise in a management program. The Penalty (PNLTY)
Lon Chaney, one of the most dynamically terrifying performers of the silent screen, stars in this 1920 grotesque thriller directed by Wallace Worsley (The Hunchback of Notre Dame). The Penalty teems with irony and sexual menace as Chaney's character orchestrates a bizarre and heinous plot to avenge himself upon his malfactor by befriending his daughter. Chaney's flawless performance echoes the misshapen mind that drives his saddistic character toward his violent destiny.
