NOTE: You will not  need all of these exercises for the Environmental Biology lab. Check with your instructor. Your computer must have Adobe Acrobat Reader  in order to open and view these documents. Most web browsers have this capability built in. But if yours doesn't you can get Adobe Acrobat Reader for free.  Instructions for getting and installing Adobe Acrobat Reader are below.

Get Google Earth and explore local field sites
Google Earth Home Google Earth is an amazing application that lets you explore the Earth using very detailed satellite imagery. Satellite images are mapped onto 3-dimensional topography, creating a very realistic experience. This is a client-based application, which means you have to download it and run on your computer. IT'S FREE!
  1. Go to the Google Earth home page.
  2. Download Google Earth and install it on your computer.
  3. Click on this link for a list of places we might visit on field outings. Choose "Run" and save the unzipped file (fc_enviro_bio_sites.kmz) to your Google Earth Folder. Open it in Google Earth it will show a listing of "Places" in the EnviroBio Sites" folder. Double click on the places in this folder and Google Earth will take you there.

Instructions:

  1. Go to the below web pages.
  2. Print them (just the one page -- not the whole web site)
  3. Bring the pages to lab. You will use them to complete an exercise based on these pages.

  • Local Birds - a brief introduction to a few of the remarkable birds in our area.

PDF Instructions:

Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view PDF documents.  If this is not installed on your system, please follow this link to the download site. This process may take several minutes.  If the Adobe Acrobat Reader program does not automatically open when you click on PDF documents, then it is unlikely that it is already installed.

Note:  After downloading the Reader to your computer, (choose Desktop as the "Save As" location) you still need to double-click on the icon created on your desktop for the program to "unpack" and install itself on your computer.  You will also need to restart your computer to complete this process.
